Traditionally parents and teachers have used “time outs” as a method to control behaviour. What if you took a “time in”? A time in to reflect, be silent, listen to your thoughts, see what you are feeling, and choose to maybe get out of your negative space.
Every hour or a few times a day, stop what you are doing and observe the traffic in your mind. Take a deep breathe. Don’t worry, the sky won’t fall down! Just watch what you are feeling and what thoughts you have been allowing to enter your mind.
Mindfulness is a journey that starts off at the beginning of my day, “Who am I? Why am I here?” Through meditation and reflection I awaken my virtues and choose to sustain them throughout my day.
